1.
Artahe 03:26
The words 'Artahe, Arte, Areix and Areixo' are used here. They all either mean oak tree or evergreen oak in Aquitanian, the ancient forerunner of modern Basque
2.
Dagaz 05:37
The word 'dagaz' is early Norse - it is something beautiful for which there is no direct translation, it means 'the heralding light before dawn'. The voices gradually crescendo to the first appearance of 'Sowulo' the sun.
3.
Sowulo 08:36
The lyrics include many words for sun from ancient and modern languages around the world.
4.
Thurisaz 03:58
5.
6.
Beorc 04:46
7.
Mannaz 10:59
The final lyrics (sung in Finnish) mean 'born of the earth, born of the sky, born of the sun'.
8.
It Is Enough 05:47
This brief light It is enough This brief time It is enough I know we're done And it's ok And now I pass This light to you I was this love I was this light It was enough It was enough There's no goodbye This song goes on Our lines entwined It is enough I was this love Just for this moment It was enough It was enough I know we're done And it's ok And so I pass This song to you Olin tama (I was this love for this moment and it was enough I was this dust for this moment And it was enough I was this life for this moment And it was enough
9.
The words, sung in Finnish and in Japanese, mean 'The Sky Beneath Our Feet' This final movement is intended as a moment of contemplation, respect and thanks to the other parts of nature that we are able to enjoy and benefit from.

about

The Sky Beneath Our Feet is an artist response to seeing humans as a part of nature, rather than separate observers of it. It was created in response to the landscape at Descanso Gardens, Los Angeles and largely inspired by the book "The Hidden Life of Trees" by Peter Wohlleben
